On November 4, rebels in Sudan shot down a Russian Il-76 with a crew of Russians on board.

The fate of the Russians has not been officially confirmed, but some local sources say there are no survivors. There have been no comments from Russian authorities yet.

The incident was not the first in the region. In October last year, an Il-76 cargo plane with the possible participation of Russian citizens was shot down over northern Darfur, where fighting was taking place between the Sudanese army and the armed group Rapid Reaction Force (RSF).
