To speed up the movement of soldiers and weapons.

The European Commission is working on a draft "military Schengen" that envisages the creation of an EU military mobility zone, which should ensure rapid transportation of soldiers, weapons and ammunition in the event of a possible armed conflict with Russia.

The project is reported by radio station RMF FM.

The European Commission is due to present a document on "military Schengen" on November 19.

Brussels officials who are working on the draft say that, among other things, it would harmonize rules and procedures across the European Union and create a network of military logistics corridors using roads, airports and seaports. All of this is aimed at ensuring efficient transportation of soldiers and equipment in the event of war.

"Right now, European bridges, roads and railways are not adapted to the rapid movement of tanks, soldiers and military cargo. In the case of transportation from the west to the eastern flank - tanks can get stuck in tunnels, in complex bureaucracy, and bridges cannot withstand the passage of these vehicles," explains Dariusz Jonski, a member of the European Parliament's defense committee.

It has been revealed that those responsible for the "military Schengen" project are preparing it in close cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance.

Military officials point out the main problems that need to be eliminated so that NATO troops not only move freely throughout the territory, but also have no problems with regulation in individual countries. Currently, military transport has to wait up to several days for permission to travel.

The European Commission is also considering the introduction of "dual-use solidarity rolling stock". Among other things, it is talking about specialized wagons and locomotives that could be used in a common military transport pool.
