On the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has revealed that he asked US President Donald Trump to help influence Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is blocking Ukraine's movement to the EU.
He said live on Euronews as part of a public summit on EU enlargement.
Zelensky was asked if he had spoken to Trump about Ukraine joining the EU and whether the American president supports it.
- Donald Trump supports Ukraine as a future member of the EU. We talked to him about it. He supports it and he understands that this is the choice of the Ukrainian people and Ukraine is part of Europe - geographically, geopolitically and historically," Zelensky replied.
He added that he also mentioned in the conversation the problem of the Hungarian veto and asked Trump for assistance.
- We talked about the blockage by the leader of Hungary, and I asked President Trump if he would support me in helping us. He said he would do everything in his power," the Ukrainian president said.
On a clarifying question about a possible time frame, Zelensky said that Trump had not mentioned it.
It is known that Viktor Orban and Donald Trump are due to meet in Washington on November 7.
One of the pressing issues during the meeting is likely to be Hungary's purchase of Russian energy resources, which it does not want to give up.
