Washington wants to establish an international force in Gaza.
The United States has circulated a draft resolution to UN Security Council members to establish an international force in Gaza for at least two years, Axios reports.
The publication writes that the draft resolution is labeled as "sensitive but not classified." The document stipulates that the US, along with other member states, will be given a broad mandate to manage Gaza's security until the end of 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
The document is expected to form the basis for Security Council negotiations in the coming days.
A US official said a vote could take place as early as the coming weeks, and the first units of the International Security Force (ISF) could be deployed in Gaza by January.
A US official clarified that the future international force would be non-status based The ISF will include troops from several countries, including Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Egypt and Turkey.
In addition, the force is to stabilize the security situation, demilitarize the region, in particular the elimination of weapons of non-state groups, including the disarmament of the Hamas terrorist group.
The project also envisages the establishment of a Peace Council as a transitional administration that will set priorities and coordinate funding for the reconstruction of Gaza.
