The Kremlin Has Been Given A Tough Ultimatum

Putin doesn't stand a chance.

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin is under increasing pressure from the international community and, according to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, will be forced to agree to a cessation of hostilities. Otherwise, additional, even tougher sanctions may be imposed against Russia. The diplomat told the La Tribune in a commentary.

Barro said Putin has good reasons to heed an updated version of Donald Trump's peace proposal, which was discussed during meetings in Geneva. He called the Russian army's failures on the battlefield one of the key factors pushing Moscow to negotiate.

The minister drew attention to the huge losses the Russian Federation is suffering.

"The Russian army's millimeter-long advance in eastern Ukraine comes at the cost of colossal human losses: more than 1,000 Russian soldiers die on the frontline every day," Barro said.

He emphasized that the Russian authorities are trying to cover up the failures on the front by massive attacks on civilian objects deep in the rear of Ukraine, violating international humanitarian norms and rules of warfare.

According to Barrot, Moscow has only two options: agree to a pause in the war or face a new wave of sanctions pressure.

"Vladimir Putin must agree to a ceasefire or accept that Russia will face new sanctions that will drain its economy, as well as increased European support for Ukraine," the French foreign minister summarized.
