Romania Bought 18 F-16s For 1 Euro From The Netherlands

Ukrainian pilots will be trained on the fighter jets.

Romania has purchased 18 F-16 airplanes from the Netherlands for 1 euro. This was announced by Romanian Defense Minister Jonutz Mosteanu on Facebook.

The contract also provides for the purchase of related equipment. The aircraft are intended for use at the European F-16 Training Center in Fetesti.

"18 aircraft will be used exclusively for training and instruction, while part of the seats in the program will be allocated for training Ukrainian pilots. The purchase is being made at a symbolic price of 1 euro. This is a reasonable investment in training, cooperation and the future," the minister said.

The Defense Ministry specified that the acquisition cost of 18 F-16 aircraft, according to the contract, is 1 euro without VAT, but 21 million euros of VAT is added to the amount, calculated on the basis of the declared value of goods in the amount of 100 million euros.
