He was 88 years old.

British playwright, director and screenwriter Tom Stoppard has died at the age of 88, reports The Guardian.

Tom Stoppard is considered one of the most sought-after playwrights of the second half of the 20th century. He wrote for film, radio, theater, and television, and was the playwright for the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain.

Stoppard's best-known plays include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Travesties, A Free Man Comes In, Arcadia, The Coast of Utopia, and Rock and Roll.

He has written screenplays for Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Fred Schepisi's Russian House, John Madden's Shakespeare in Love, and Joe Wright's Anna Karenina.

In 1990, Stoppard screened his own play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead."

It should be noted that Tom Stoppard is a great friend of free Belarus and the site Charter97.org. After the repression and confiscation of equipment in 2010, he donated several computers to our media.

Top Stoppard has repeatedly spoken out in support of Belarusian political prisoners.

The editorial staff of Charter97.org offers condolences to Tom Stoppard's family and friends.
