A large demonstration is taking place in Tbilisi to mark the anniversary of the anti-Western government reversal and the beginning of mass protests.

This is reported by SOVA.

On the anniversary of the Georgian authorities' statement on the suspension of European integration, demonstrators gathered near Tbilisi State University and moved from there in a procession to the parliament building. Among the protesters are ordinary citizens and representatives of opposition political forces. People are marching with flags of Georgia, EU and Ukraine.

"A year ago Ivanishvili (founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party - Ed.) clearly stated what he knew since 2012 - that Georgia will not have a European future under his regime, and openly interrupted the process of Georgia's European integration, which is a historical choice of our people. The Georgian people have not gotten tired in a year, they have not given up..... We will continue on this path," said Tina Bokuchava, leader of the United National Movement, who was present at the rally.

Since November 28, 2024, protests of various sizes have been held daily under the Parliament. The largest demonstrations have often been accompanied by clashes and mass detentions.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the anti-Western U-turn, 118 former Georgian diplomats published a joint address condemning the current course of the government, Ekho Kavkaza reported.

"Anti-Western sentiments are purposefully encouraged in Georgia, attempts are made to discredit strategic partners (....), disinformation and outright lies - that someone allegedly demanded from Georgia concessions of sovereignty or 'opening a second front' in exchange for the continuation of European integration," the signatories wrote.

"Since the restoration of independence, EU and NATO countries have always stood by our side, especially when Georgia faced existential threats. In the most difficult years, it was our partners and true friends who helped us with the formation of state institutions, strengthening of defense and security system," the appeal reads.
