In the Orenburg region of Russia there was an explosion on the territory of a missile base, after which a cloud of purple smoke appeared in the sky, the rossMedia reports.

Residents of the town of Yasny reported that a loud pop was heard before the smoke appeared. According to them, the cause was a missile launch accident - it collapsed in the air.

Official statements from federal agencies have not yet been published.

The town of Yasny is one of the few places in Russia where a strategic missile base is located. Long-range missiles can be launched here, including those that can be equipped with nuclear warheads.

After an unknown missile exploded at the Yasny test site, local authorities began sending out warnings to residents of neighboring communities. People are advised not to drink tap water until a special order.
