Ukraine may receive $5 billion worth of military aid from allies under the PURL support program by the end of the year.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said this, El Pais reported.
"Ukraine is receiving extremely important equipment. European countries have made a significant contribution over the last few years, but there are certain capabilities that only the US can provide. President (US President Donald - ed.) Trump has agreed to ensure that Canada and European allies fund US weapons," Rutte noted.
He said Ukraine receives about $1 billion worth of weapons every month.
"I am very pleased that Spain has also decided to support this initiative. This is important for the defense of Ukraine, for saving the lives of innocent Ukrainians and for protecting the infrastructure targeted by Russian drones and missiles. It also ensures that Ukraine can carry out its own attacks and prevents Russia from succeeding," the NATO secretary general added.
He also emphasized that Ukraine will receive about 5 billion in military aid by the end of the year, which is about $1 billion a month.
"We are on track to deliver all weapons to Ukraine. But this is not only about the PURL initiative. There is also the Czech initiative on ammunition, as well as efforts by Lithuania and Denmark to purchase defense industry equipment in Ukraine," he added.
Rutte also stressed that European countries will continue to supply equipment from their own stocks. Although these stocks are dwindling after three to four years of war, deliveries are still possible.
