Lithuanian Seimas Takes New Measures Against Lukashenko's Provocations

Lithuania's Seimas on Thursday approved amendments to a law that proposes to penalize smuggling if its transportation poses a threat to the public, businesses or disrupts air traffic, delfi.lt reports.
The amendments to the Criminal Code (CC) and the Criminal Intelligence Law were drafted by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in response to a flood of weather probes carrying contraband The bills will be considered as a matter of urgency.
The Interior Ministry proposes to amend the Criminal Code, under which smuggling, if it endangers human life or health, an enterprise of national security importance, or disrupts traffic, will be punishable by imprisonment from 4 to 8 years.
According to the draft, similar sanctions will be applied for illegal acquisition, storage, transportation or transfer of excisable goods, if such actions endanger human life or health, an enterprise of national security importance, or disrupt the safe movement of transport.
The proposed amendments to the law also penalize the smuggling of weapons, ammunition, explosives, radioactive or dangerous chemicals by air.
The proposed punishment for smuggling weapons, ammunition and explosives, if such actions threaten the safety of a person, an enterprise of national security importance, or disrupt the flow of transportation, is 6 to 10 years' imprisonment.
