India's Largest Refinery Finally Gives Up Russian Oil

Sanctions are in place.

Indian energy giant Reliance Industries will completely stop importing Russian crude oil from November 20, following international sanctions.

This is reported by Reuters.

It is a complete halt to the import of Russian crude oil for the refinery complex in Jamnagar (Gujarat).

This decision was taken against the background of tougher sanctions of the US, UK and EU, directed against Russian oil companies - primarily Rosneft and Lukoil.

It is known that Reliance has a long-term contract with the Russian company Rosneft for the purchase of about 500 thousand barrels of oil per day. Despite this, the corporation has repeatedly emphasized that it will adhere to the sanctions imposed against Russia and comply with all international restrictions on the energy sector.

Washington has given international companies until November 21 to complete all transactions with these producers.

The European Union, for its part, bans imports of fuel produced at refineries that received or processed Russian crude within 60 days before the date of tanker loading. The rule will come into effect on January 21.

Reliance said that from December 1, the company's entire export product will be made exclusively from non-Russian crude. The transition was completed ahead of schedule to ensure full compliance with the new sanctions requirements.

The company also stressed that it was fulfilling all previously agreed shipments of Russian crude oil processed before October 22 as the logistical processes were already in place. The last such vessel was shipped on November 12 and all tankers that will arrive on or after November 20 will be received and processed in the Domestic Tariff Area.

It should be noted that Europe is one of the key markets for Reliance and accounts for about 28% of the company's exports, so the company is doing everything necessary to maintain access to the European market.
