Rene Obermann called for nuclear weapons to be deployed in Europe.
Airbus chairman René Obermann has called on European states to acquire tactical nuclear weapons in response to the threat posed by Russian Iskander missiles deployed in Kaliningrad that are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, Deutsche Welle.
"Our Achilles' heel seems to be what Russia is threatening us with quite openly: more than 500 tactical nuclear warheads on Iskander missiles placed right outside our door in Kaliningrad, in addition to to those recently deployed in Belarus," Obermann said Wednesday, November 19, speaking at the Berlin Security Conference.
The Airbus chief said Germany, France, Britain and other interested states should work out a joint nuclear deterrence program against Russia.
A NATO spokesman, commenting on Obermann's statement to Reuters, said the alliance had recently "not seen any changes in Russia's nuclear policy."
