Politico: Peace Agreement On Ukraine War Could Be Reached 'as Soon As This Week'

Neither Ukraine nor Europe was involved in the development of the peace plan.
The White House is set to unveil a major new peace agreement with Russia that officials say will finally end the war in Ukraine. As Politico writes, the Donald Trump administration expects an agreement to end the war in Ukraine to be reached by all sides in the coming days.
"A senior White House official said they expect a framework document to end the conflict to be agreed upon by all sides by the end of this month - and possibly 'as early as this week,'" the publication writes.
At the same time, however, neither Ukraine nor America's allies in Europe seem to have been involved in drafting the new peace plan, the publication writes. It is also not yet known what solutions are envisioned for the most pressing issues related to Russia's seizure of vast tracts of Ukrainian territory, the kidnapping of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children, or security guarantees for Ukraine.
At the same time, "the mood in the White House is optimistic, and it looks like the plan will be presented to Zelensky as a fait accompli," the article says.
"What we are going to offer [Ukraine] is reasonable...We basically don't care about the Europeans. "The important thing is that Ukraine agrees," said a senior White House official.
Politico columnists note that the White House believes Ukraine is in such a position now, given the corruption scandals plaguing Zelensky, given where the front lines are now, that they think they can get it to accept this deal.
"They say it's reasonable; it's what they think will be acceptable to Ukraine," the article noted.
