Sikorski: Diversion Will Meet Our Response - And Not Just Diplomatically

Poland's foreign minister reacted to the act of terrorism on the railroad.
Poland will respond to the sabotage on the railroad not only diplomatically. This was announced by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, speaking in the Sejm on November 19.
"In recent days, acts of sabotage have occurred that could have led to a railway disaster and the deaths of many people. A foreign state sent well-trained saboteurs. Only by a miracle did they not reach their goal. The Russian GRU regularly hires contractors under a foreign flag for their dirty work. This time it was not just an act of sabotage as before, but an act of state terrorism, as the obvious intention was to cause loss of life. This will meet our response - and not only diplomatic, which we will inform about in the coming days," Sikorski said.
The foreign minister added that those who committed the sabotage want to turn part of public opinion in Poland against its neighbors, against the European Union and against refugees from Ukraine "who fled to Poland from Russian bombs."
"Why is Putin doing this? For the same reason he supported Brexit, financed the separatist movement in Spain, supports Hungary's nationalist government and radical parties that promise to collapse the European Union from within. The reason is obvious: as the EU we are a giant in relation to Russia. And as individual member states, it is Russia that is a superpower to us. Is that so hard to understand?", Sikorski said in his speech to MPs.
Before the foreign minister's speech in the Sejm, MP Marcin Otzepa said that the lower house of parliament had reached a consensus on moving the Russian embassy in Warsaw.
"The government should at least send a diplomatic note to Moscow on this issue," Otzepa told PolsatNews.
After the speech, answering journalists' questions, the foreign minister said Poland was closing the Russian consulate in Gdansk.
"I have decided to withdraw my consent to the operation of the Russian consulate in Gdansk," Sikorski was quoted as saying by the PAP news agency.
Reminder, on November 17, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that there was an act of sabotage on the railway line between Warsaw and Lublin near the village of Mika: an explosive device detonated and destroyed the railroad bed.
On the evening of November 17, the head of Poland's Interior Ministry Martin Kierwiński confirmed the prime minister's words.
"Experts unequivocally confirmed the explosion," he said.
Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Zurek said the Mazowiecki branch of the National Prosecutor's Office had already launched an official investigation into the sabotage.
It should be noted that this rail line connects Warsaw and Rzeszow, the main logistical hub through which Western arms flow into Ukraine.
On November 18, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Polish security services have identified people suspected of involvement in sabotage on the railroad. They are two Ukrainian citizens who came to the country from Belarus and could have been recruited by Russian intelligence. According to the Prime Minister, having committed sabotage on the railroad, the two left the territory of Poland and returned to Belarus through the border crossing in Terespol.
November 19, Poland introduced the third level of alert (CHARLIE) on the territories of railway lines. The regime will be in effect from November 19, 2025, from 00.00, until February 28, 2026, until 23.59.
