A Trunk Gas Pipeline Near Omsk Blew Up

In the Omsk region, a section of a main gas pipeline exploded in a field near the Rostovka settlement, after which a fire broke out, the region's governor Vitaly Khotsenko said. "According to preliminary information, there are no casualties. <�...> Residents of the Omsk district and other settlements of our region are not threatened by anything," Khotsenko wrote in his Telegram channel. According to him, the explosion occurred as a result of an accident at an underground section of the gas pipeline. Operational services clarified to TASS that it was a gas distribution station. Four units of equipment and 18 EMERCOM employees were sent to extinguish the fire, writes The Moscow Times.
Local residents told Shot that the explosion took place in the Vrubelevo neighborhood, and the glow from the ensuing fire was visible several kilometers away.
The governor of the Omsk region later said that a number of industrial enterprises had been cut off from gas supply in the region because of the gas pipeline accident. "At the moment, boiler houses are provided with gas through reserve gas pipelines, reserve fuels have been formed at boiler houses. <�...> The task is to restore gas under the permanent scheme in the near future. According to the information of Gazprom specialists, the restoration period will take up to a day," Khotsenko noted.
The Department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in the Omsk region has started an investigation into the fact of a gas pipeline explosion in the region. The agency noted that investigators went to the scene to inspect and clarify all the circumstances of the incident. In turn, the regional department of the Federal Security Service told TASS that the cause of the fire could have been repair work on an above-ground gas pipeline.
The Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk division said it was preparing to carry out restoration work and change the gas supply system in the Omsk region. A special commission will investigate the causes of the incident, the organization added.
