For breaking up the protests.
A court in Bangladesh has found the country's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina guilty of crimes against humanity during the violent crackdown on protests in 2024. The former head of government was sentenced to death, but she fled to India about a year ago and is out of reach of Bangladesh's security agencies, BBC reported.
Two other officials of her government were found guilty along with 78-year-old Hasina: former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and ex-police chief Chaudhuri Abdullah al-Mamun.
Only the latter was present in the courtroom: he pleaded guilty and testified as a prosecution witness during the trial.
According to the Indian edition of the Free Press Journal (FPJ) in August 2024, after leaving Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina considered Belarus as one of the countries where she could seek political asylum.
Lukashenko twice congratulated her on New Year holidays in 2022 and 2023.
