A nearby community was evacuated.

The Romanian village of Plauru was evacuated Monday morning after a Turkish-flagged merchant ship sailing from the Ukrainian coast and loaded with about four thousand tons of liquefied natural gas was attacked by a Russian drone, IPN reported.

The Turkish government's General Directorate of Maritime Affairs said the ship, with 16 Turkish crew members on board, was attacked in the Ukrainian port of Izmail and the Turkish government said the vessel was attacked in the Ukrainian port of Izmail. Turkish authorities said the crew evacuated safely and there were no casualties or injuries. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire on board.

The mayor of Chatalkioi commune, which includes the village of Plauru, together with the prefect of Tulcea county visited the area. The authorities decided to evacuate the population, which was also requested by the Ukrainian side, given that the cargo of liquefied gas could lead to an explosion with devastating consequences on both banks of the Danube.

Local media report that 15 people have already been evacuated to the village of Chatalkioi. The Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations says the mission is still ongoing.
