It supplies electricity to the central regions of the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian drones have attacked the 500 kV Veshkaima substation in Russia's Ulyanovsk Region, which is a link in the Volga region energy ring. It provides a connection between the power systems of the Ulyanovsk region, Mordovia, Chuvashia and Samara region.

This was reported on Monday, November 17, by the Telegram channel Astra.

Through the attacked facility pass "significant amounts of electricity," including from the Syzran and Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power plants, going to the central regions of the country. The substation is owned and maintained by MES Volga, a branch of Rosseti PJSC, Astra writes.

Satellite data from NASA Firms service confirms a fire at a substation in a village in the Ulyanovsk region.

The governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexei Russkikh, acknowledged the attack on the facility and said there were "no casualties" as a result of the strike. He also assured that power supply to settlements "is carried out in a normal mode."

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andrey Kovalenko said that the substation was attacked after it was partially restored.

"Let me remind you that this is one of the key elements of the Russian energy system," Kovalenko wrote.
