Consultation of deputy Home Secretaries is scheduled for today.
Despite the serious crisis on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, Poland is not going to revise its own plans to open border crossings with Belarus this month. This is reported by RMF FM with reference to unofficial sources.
The deputy interior ministers of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia are due to hold consultations on Thursday, November 13.
The Polish side emphasizes that this meeting was planned in advance and was initially supposed to deal with the migration crisis. Representatives of the Interior Ministry of Poland do not rule out that during the talks, attention will be paid to the situation on the border between Belarus and Lithuania, but, according to them, the outcome of the consultations is unlikely to lead to a revision of plans to open checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border - it should happen in the coming weeks.
In turn, the Lithuanian side, according to the newspaper, considers these talks as part of a broader discussion of the crisis situation, caused by the decision of Vilnius to close the border with Belarus.
Reminder, earlier, Polish Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński said that Warsaw decided to support Vilnius and postponed for several weeks the opening of two checkpoints in Podlaskie Voivodeship on the border with Belarus ("Kuznica - Bruzgi" and "Bobrovniki - Berestovitsa"), which was previously announced by the Prime Minister of this country Donald Tusk.
Polish government spokesman Adam Szlapka said that the prime ministers of Poland and Lithuania had agreed to open checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border "around mid-November."
