G7 Meeting in Niagara
On November 11-12, 2025, the foreign ministers of the G7 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US, as well as the EU High Representative, met in the Niagara region, Ontario, under the Canadian presidency.
The event brought together the foreign ministers of Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Republic of Korea, South Africa and Ukraine to discuss maritime security, strategic resources, economic sustainability and energy security.
The participants made a number of statements, some of which related to Ukraine.
Support for Ukraine
The G7 ministers reaffirmed their full commitment to Ukraine's territorial integrity and independence.
The statement stressed that international borders should not be changed by force and an immediate ceasefire is key to stabilizing the region.
The current frontline is seen as a starting point for future talks between Kiev and Moscow.
Pressure on Russia
The G7 countries are increasing economic sanctions against Russia and exploring measures to target states and organizations that help finance its military actions.
The statement condemned Russia's military assistance from North Korea and Iran, as well as the supply of weapons and dual-use components from China, which helped escalate the war.
Financing and Energy Security
The ministers discussed the possibility of coordinated use of frozen Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine.
The importance of protecting the country's energy infrastructure following recent Russian attacks was also emphasized, which is critical to ensuring the stability and security of the Ukrainian economy.
