The U.S. Senate Has Approved A Bill To End The Shutdown

The government could be back up and running in a few days.

The US Senate has approved a bill in a procedural vote that would end the shutdown and resume partially interrupted government work, CNN writes. The document was supported by 60 senators, 40 opposed.

The document will now be returned to the House of Representatives, and after it is signed by US President Donald Trump, a process that could take a few more days.

"The vote came after a group of eight centrist Democratic senators reached an agreement with Republican leaders in the Senate and the White House to reopen the government in exchange for a future vote on extending expanded subsidies for affordable health care," the network reported.

Before that, Trump told reporters that the U.S. was close to reopening the partially suspended government, CNN reported.

"It looks like we're getting closer to ending the shutdown. You will find out very soon," the president said.

According to Politico and Fox News sources, U.S. senators have reached a bipartisan agreement to end the shutdown and reopen the government. The document has gathered enough support among Senate Democrats, and Republicans plan to back it.

Politico writes that the agreement will form the basis for a broader budget plan that includes funding for the Agriculture Department, the Food and Drug Administration, the Veterans Affairs Department, military construction projects and congressional operations for the entire fiscal year. The rest of the line items will receive temporary funding through Jan. 30.
