Israel Has Set A Deadline For The Gaza Agreement To Enter Into Force

  • 9.10.2025, 14:13

Arab media reports are somewhat premature.

Israel has said the Gaza Strip peace deal will only take effect after approval by the government, which is expected to meet on the evening of October 9.

This is reported by The Guardian.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the agreement to free hostages in the Gaza Strip will only take effect after Cabinet approval.

A statement from Netanyahu's office said:

"Contrary to Arab media reports, the 72-hour countdown will only begin after the agreement is approved at a cabinet meeting, which is expected in the evening hours," the statement said.

Before that, Israel officially stated that 20 Israeli hostages held in Gaza are expected to be released in the coming days - on Sunday or Monday.

US Peace Plan on Gaza

Reminder, last week US President Donald Trump proposed a 20-point plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The document calls for the creation of an international "peace council" that would oversee a "technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee" responsible for the day-to-day management of Gaza.

The council would be headed by Trump himself and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
