Lukashenko Fawned Over The Custodian Of His Money

  • 9.10.2025, 14:41

There's the underwater part of the iceberg.

Political analyst of the news agency "Pozirk" Alexander Klaskovsky in his commentary "Filin" told about the visit of the Sultan of Oman Haisam bin Tarek Al Said to Minsk.

It is reported that "a range of issues of bilateral cooperation" and "deepening of trade and economic relations" were discussed.

- What could really be behind this meeting?

- I think the main arrangements of this visit remained behind the scenes. There are suspicions that it is about the business interests of Lukashenko's family," Klaskowski notes. - The talks were attended by the ruler's eldest son Viktor, who officially holds no government positions.

In the meantime, it is obvious that Viktor Lukashenko plays a behind-the-scenes role in contacts with Oman and other Arabian monarchies - he often flies there. It's hard to provide any evidence, but there is a fact: last year's trade turnover with Oman amounted to only five million dollars, which is a pittance.

It's clear that with such a trade turnover to organize meetings with pomp - well, it's not worth it. So, there is an underwater part of the iceberg.

There are talks that Lukashenko's family is hiding their money in the Arabian Peninsula. Of course, no thief is caught. But if there are surplus funds, it is logical to hide them where it is difficult for the West and America to reach.

In addition, the political analyst notes, during the meeting a declaration of intentions to build another pulp and paperboard mill in Belarus was signed.

- This is surprising, because there is a similar enterprise in Dobrusha, there is a mill in Svetlogorsk, which is now in crisis. That is, there is nowhere to put cardboard, why another enterprise?

- Apparently, there are considerations like "let's spend money on this rich monarch, the main thing is to saw it off", but whether this enterprise will be profitable, whether there will be demand for its products - they don't think about it.

- If the main purpose of such meetings is to lobby the business interests of Lukashenko's family, why organize official visits with pomp? Such conversations could probably be conducted through personal contacts.

- This is done for PR purposes. Indeed, it would be possible to solve these cases quietly. It is done so, because Lukashenko's business jet flies to the Arabian Peninsula every now and then. So there are also closed contacts.

But it is important for Lukashenko to show once again that he has no isolation. He is very pleased with this visit. Apparently, the word "sultan" sounds very attractive to him.

Lukashenko can't declare himself a sultan, although de facto he has achieved this title by many parameters. And the fact that the Sultan himself arrived flattered him very much - he even saw him off in person at the airport, although the protocol does not provide for it. It was obvious that Lukashenko wanted to please this guest.
