The largest natural gas processor in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation is on fire.
On the night of September 9, kamikaze drones attacked the Lukoil gas processing plant in Volgograd Region. As a result of the strikes on the territory of the enterprise, two fires broke out.
The fires at the plant were detected by satellites. This was reported by the monitoring Telegram channel Supernova+.
Results of the drone attack
Local residents confirmed that after the arrival of drones on the territory of the Korobkovsky gas processing plant in the village of Kotovo in the Volgograd region, a fire started.
Russian officials also recognized the fact that the plant was hit. According to Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov, fuel and energy facilities are burning in the region. He also complained that a boiler house building in the Volgograd region was damaged.
"In the Kotovsky district, a boiler house building was partially damaged as a result of falling UAV debris. There were also fires on the territory of fuel and energy facilities. At present, promptly arrived firefighting services on the spot eliminate the hotbeds of fires," - wrote the head of the region.
According to the data of the mapping platform NASA FIRMS, a large fire was recorded on the territory of the facility. Satellites have recorded the location of active fires and thermal anomalies at the plant.
What is known about the plant
The Korobkovsky Gas Processing Plant is the largest natural gas processor in Russia's Southern Federal District. It specializes in processing associated petroleum gas and natural gas. The plant is a part of Lukoil.
The enterprise carries out complex processing of raw materials to obtain valuable fractions of hydrocarbons. Processing includes separation of natural gas from water, mechanical impurities and hydrogen sulfide, gas compression in the compressor shop, gas and condensate drying.
The plant plays an important role in the rational use of associated petroleum gas in the region, preventing its flaring. The plant's production capacity is stated at 0.45 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Reminder, Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries have led to a sharp decline in domestic oil refining and a simultaneous increase in crude oil exports. Ukraine has carried out at least 28 attacks on Russian refineries since the beginning of August.
