Slovakia Announces New Aid Package For Ukraine

Slovakia is preparing a new military support package for Ukraine. It provides for engineering and mine countermeasures assistance.

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said this during his opening remarks at the Third International Forum of Defense Industries (DFNC3) in Kiev, "Interfax-Ukraine".

"I am very pleased to announce that together with Minister Shmygal we have just signed a memorandum on the 14th support package, which provides for Slovakia's provision of engineering and mine countermeasures assistance to Ukraine," Kaliniak said.

He stressed that he was in Kiev today to identify possible projects to expand "our already quite comprehensive defense cooperation" together with his Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmygal.

The Slovak minister said that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Slovakia has increased its capacity to produce artillery ammunition 15 times.

"In addition, we have tripled the production of indirect fire systems. I am very happy and pleased to see here my distinguished colleagues from Denmark and the joint project for the delivery of 16 fully automatic Zuzana howitzers we have just completed, in a few weeks," Kaliniak stressed.

Kaliniak also said that during a recent meeting between Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, defense cooperation was identified as one of the main topics of the upcoming fourth joint intergovernmental session.
