Third time this week.
For the third time in a week, the Polish Army had to raise its fighter jets to intercept a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.
The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command reported on Friday.
The report said that on October 31, just before 9:00 a.m., a pair of Polish MiG-29 aircraft on duty were once again put in the air to intercept a Russian Federation Il-20 reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.
The Russian aircraft was again traveling without a filed flight plan and with its transponder turned off, posing a potential threat to traffic safety in the region.
Polish pilots intercepted and identified the aircraft, which was escorted in accordance with NATO procedures. There was no violation of Polish airspace.
This is the third such situation this week, which confirms the growing activity of Russian aviation in the Baltic Sea area.
