- 28.10.2025, 10:15
The water level has dropped one meter.
A state of emergency was declared in Belgorod on October 27 after Ukraine's armed forces attacked the dam of a local water reservoir twice.
Russian media cited a decision by the Federal Water Resources Agency Tsentrregionvodkhoz, according to "RBC-Ukraine".
According to the agency, the impacts damaged the bottom outlet and both gates, which are responsible for regulating the water level.
This has already led to a one-meter drop in the level. Emergency and restoration work is underway at the dam, the agency said. In particular, workers have begun backfilling the channel to avoid shallowing the reservoir and flooding downstream areas.
What is known about the attack on the reservoir
On the night of Saturday, October 25, Russian media and local blogs began reporting as if Ukrainian troops had attacked the dam of the Belgorod reservoir with HIMARS missiles.
It was noted that the arrival damaged several buildings with technical equipment, lifting mechanisms of one of the release sluices and the crest of the dam.
The next day, the media reported that on the night of October 26, the Belgorod dam was attacked by drones, resulting in damage to the dam, which caused a sharp rise in the water in the Seversky Donets River.
In the morning, the water level dropped by more than a meter. During the day, attacks on it continued.
Subsequently, local authorities confirmed the flooding of ten sites in Shebekinsky district and announced the evacuation of the population.
