There are dead and wounded.

There was an explosion at the Zubair oil field in southern Iraq. It killed one person and injured four others.

According to The National News.

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Energy, the explosion and fire were caused by a gas leak in an old pumping system at the Zubayr oil storage facility when workers were doing welding work near a pipeline in Basra.

The pipeline in question transports crude oil from the Zubayr oilfield to neighboring storage tanks.

The ministry said early Sunday afternoon that the fire had been "brought under partial control" and that "incidents of this nature take time to fully contain and extinguish."

One of the injured is in critical condition. The incident is not known to have disrupted operations at the oil field, which produces 400,000 barrels of oil a day.

Video posted on social media shows the area engulfed in flames and thick black smoke. Firefighters in protective gear fought the blaze, using white foam to cover the scene.

The Italian company Eni is the developer of the Zubair oil field.

Iraq is OPEC's second-largest producer after Saudi Arabia. Oil revenues account for more than 90 percent of Iraq's budget.

According to the ministry, the country is producing more than four million barrels per day from Baghdad-controlled oil fields, up from nearly 2.4 million bpd in 2009.

Also on Sunday, the ministry announced total oil exports in September of 102.15 million barrels, bringing in $6.96 billion.
