Smoke and counter-drone nets.
New satellite imagery clearly shows how Ukrainian long-range strikes are turning Russia's precious oil industry into a battlefield. This is according to Business Insider.
The images, taken this month by Vantor, a U.S.-based spatial intelligence company, show networks covering one of the refineries - part of Russia's efforts to protect its oil facilities from drone attacks - as well as the aftermath of a successful Ukrainian strike.
The image, taken on October 2, shows a counter-drone net covering three storage tanks at the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia's Samara region.
It is noted that this netting is not new and was seen in images earlier this year. But it underscores how Moscow is using improvised defenses to protect its critical energy infrastructure from Ukrainian drone attacks. Similar defensive tactics have been seen at other Russian refineries. Similar improvised defenses have also been used to protect vulnerable Russian warships in port from maritime drones.
On October 13, the target of the attack was the Feodosia oil terminal on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula. A source in the Ukrainian security forces told Business Insider that long-range drones hit at least five tanks, causing a massive fire at the facility.
