Lithuanian border guards prevented 39 migrants from illegally entering Lithuania from Belarus. None of them managed to enter the country's territory in the area of Lazdijai and Švenčionis districts, as the reaction of the State Border Guard Service officers was lightning fast in all cases, reports the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania.
The largest group of migrants recorded on October 20 - 20 people - appeared at the Kapčemestis fence section, near the border crossing between Lithuania, Poland and Belarus.
They were observed not only by cameras, but also by border guards patrolling the Mara River in SUVs from the Lithuanian side. The migrants, upon seeing them, ran toward the Polish border.
Two other groups of migrants, totaling 9 people, appeared later Monday at other locations along the border fence in Kapčemestis. In Švenčiūnis district, a group of 10 migrants approached the border from the Belarusian side. In all three cases, border guards promptly arrived at the locations, and upon spotting them, the groups of migrants quickly retreated deep into Belarus.
This year Lithuanian border guards prevented 1,416 illegal migrants from entering the country illegally from Belarus.
