Vilnius Social Democrats Propose To Adopt A Resolution On Immigrant Integration

  • 21.10.2025, 15:35

The point of the resolution is to improve opportunities for immigrants.

Vilnius Social Democrats propose that the capital city council adopt a resolution on immigrant integration in the capital. The aim of the resolution is to create a clear and effective policy regarding the social and economic inclusion of immigrants, writes Delfi.

The essence of the resolution is to improve the opportunities for immigrants to learn the Lithuanian language, encourage their participation in the life of the city and create conditions for full integration into society.

The document proposes to approve financial assistance and incentive measures, as well as to support non-governmental organizations that are engaged in the integration of immigrants in the capital. Today Vilnius is home to a significant number of immigrants, but neither the state nor the capital still gives them a real opportunity to learn Lithuanian or to integrate into society. We propose Vilnius to adopt the resolution and take an important step - to take responsibility and become an example for other municipalities and for the state itself," said Povilas Pinialis, the head of the Social Democracy faction in the capital's City Council.

The municipality will discuss the resolution at a meeting next Wednesday. If the document is approved, it will become the basis for the creation of new integration measures and their financing.

Tens of thousands of migrants from Belarus live in Vilnius.
