EU Appoints Special Envoy To Fight Russian Federation's 'shadow Fleet'

"The Shadow Fleet serves as a launching pad for hybrid attacks.

EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas said she has appointed a special envoy coordinator to ensure strong measures against Russia's "shadow fleet."

She said this after an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, "European Pravda".

She noted that the "shadow fleet" finances Russia's war and serves as a launching pad for hybrid attacks.

"Today ministers discussed a stronger response, in particular granting additional powers to inspect shadow fleet vessels. I have also appointed a special envoy-coordinator who will gather best practices from different member states and act more swiftly on these issues," Callas said.

She added: to further reduce Russia's military spending, a more decisive approach to fighting the shadow fleet is needed at EU level.
