He said it was "extremely important" to increase pressure on Russia's shadow fleet.
Europe must increase pressure on Russia's shadow fleet to disrupt oil supplies, French President Emmanuel Macron said at the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen.
"It is extremely important to increase pressure on this shadow fleet because it will clearly reduce the possibility of financing military action," the French leader said (quoted by AFP).
He suggested that countries in a "coalition of the willing" to support Ukraine work in coordination with NATO to optimize joint actions in this regard.
Macron said that tanker detentions not only ensure that vessels comply with international rules but are "very important" to increase pressure on Moscow and force negotiations.
"You destroy the business model by detaining these vessels even for a few days or weeks and forcing them to rebuild," he said.
