Sky News: AFU May Launch A Major Strike On Crimea Before Winter

The Kerch Bridge is in the crosshairs.

Military analyst Michael Clarke believes that the Ukrainian Defense Forces may strike Crimea in the coming months. In his opinion, the Crimean bridge in particular could come under serious attack.

Professor Michael Clarke does not rule out a surprise attack on Crimea by Ukraine before winter arrives. He said in a commentary for Sky News on Oct. 1 that despite the approaching cold, wet and snow, the Ukrainian military "may still have something up its sleeve."

"The Ukrainians love to surprise. They know it affects not only the Russians on the front lines, but also the West's perception of how things are going in Ukraine," Clark noted.

The analyst recalled that the Ukrainian military recently struck a number of radar stations and air defense facilities on the Crimean peninsula. According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are creating gaps in Russia's air defenses, and may want to exploit them to get even better results.

Clark believes that before winter there could be "some kind of big attack on Crimea," like air attacks or a sea landing that could confuse the occupiers. The professor believes that the target of an air attack could be in particular the Kerch Bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula to Russia, as the Ukrainians now have the appropriate weapons for deep strikes.

Clarke also expressed his belief that the Russian offensive, which began in the summer, has "exhausted itself" and the occupiers are not making strategically important progress, although they have managed to "apply reasonable pressure" in the Kupyansk area in Kharkiv Oblast. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine is in for another difficult winter with massive air attacks.
