Le Monde: Trump's Stance On Ukraine Is Starting To Irritate

The allies are not happy.

US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly stated that he wants to put an end to the war of aggressor country Russia against Ukraine, has only confirmed his inconsistency with his actions in just a week. This is what Le Monde writes on October 18.

The publication recalls that after the failed summit in Alaska, where Trump showed concession to the Kremlin and got nothing in return, on October 13, he threatened to hand over Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine if illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin did not stop aggression.

It seemed that Trump had finally decided to build a balance of power with Putin, who understands only the language of force. But three days later, after a long telephone conversation with Putin, he once again changed his position. Trump backtracked on his decision on cruise missile deliveries, citing insufficient U.S. stockpiles and a desire to avoid escalation. "Putin showed no such hesitation in the weeks following the Anchorage summit, unleashing unprecedented bombardments on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure," Le Monde reminds us.

The publication notes that Trump has once again tried to take an equidistant position between the two belligerents, putting aggressor and victim on the same level. This has already frozen the situation in one place for eight months, which Russia has been constantly taking advantage of.

The media notes that Tomahawk missiles could have strengthened Ukraine and shown Washington's firm support. Instead, the U.S. limits itself to words and unrealized threats of sanctions.

Trump, who rebuked Zelensky for "not having all the cards", is himself playing his own extremely insecure cards, and that is what is irritating his allies today, the publication writes.
