Putin turned him over to Baku.
During the meeting between Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Dushanbe, the Russian side gave Baku the plans of Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Azerbaijani president's administration, to seize power in the country, write Azerbaijani media.
According to APA, Mehtiyev allegedly developed a plan for a coup d'état in Azerbaijan, which was supposed to be realized with Russian support, and contacted Moscow through his channels. He was reportedly trying to take advantage of the period of tension between the countries after the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane in December 2024.
"Mehtiyev's plan" envisioned the creation of an interim authority, the State Council of the Transitional Period, which was to be headed by the 87-year-old official himself. Mehtiyev also handed over to the Russian side the proposed composition of this council, the media claim.
On the day of the meeting between Putin and Aliyev, however, Moscow handed over the plan, the media claim. The Kremlin did not comment on this in any way.
