The politician will hold the position for one month.

Republika Srpska's parliament has appointed an interim president after a court suspended pro-Russian leader Milorad Dodik from politics.

Reuters writes Reuters.

On Saturday, October 18, Republika Srpska's parliament appointed Ana Trisic Babic as interim president, the first time it officially recognized that Dodik was stepping down after a state court barred him from politics.

Trisic Babic, a close associate of Dodik, will hold the post for one month until Republika Srpska holds new presidential elections on November 23.

The parliament also repealed a series of separatist laws passed over the past year after Dodik was indicted on charges of failing to comply with the decisions of an international representative and a constitutional court.

Dodik said that despite the parliament's vote, Republika Srpska "will not change its policy" and secession remains his ultimate goal.

Republika Srpska has been without a president since August, when Dodik's conviction for disobeying the decisions of the international community's high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina was upheld.
