Europe Wants To Ban The Sale Of Filtered Cigarettes

Restrictions could affect e-cigarettes as well.

European Union countries are going to ban the production, import and sale of filtered cigarettes, writes Bild.

The restrictions may also affect electronic cigarettes.

The WHO believes that a ban on filtered cigarettes will help reduce their appeal in general. This is the opinion of a report by the World Health Organization. The EU supports the recommendations and will consider a draft decision at the WHO meeting in Geneva in November 2025.

The EU Council draft says the organization's report "on tobacco product regulation" "explicitly recommends a ban on filters to reduce the attractiveness of cigarettes."

A complete ban on the manufacture, supply, distribution and sale of filtered tobacco products "would make an important contribution to tobacco control." And a ban on e-cigarettes would be "an additional regulatory option." In addition, such a measure could have a positive impact on the environment - billions of cigarette butts pollute the environment every year.

These recommendations will have serious implications for tobacco regulation in the EU in the future.

The WHO has previously called on all countries in the world to increase the price of alcohol, cigarettes and sweet carbonated drinks by 50% or more over 10 years through health taxes.
