Britain's MI5 Reported Preventing China's Covert Operation

Details.

Britain's counterintelligence service MI5 uncovered another Chinese "spying plot" last week, the agency's director general Ken McCallum said, reports The Times.

McCallum said China's actions pose a threat to Britain's national security "every day" and MI5 "intervened swiftly" last week to foil a covert operation orchestrated by Beijing. The head of the agency declined to disclose details, but the operation had nothing to do with parliament, according to the publication.

McCallum vowed he would "never back down" from a challenge posed by China and called the arrests of Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry a "serious breach" of national security.

The case in question is that of two Britons accused of passing information useful to China under the Official Secrets Act in April 2024.
