Pete Hegseth made a statement on Ramstein.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that if the Russian-Ukrainian war does not end, Washington and its allies will take the necessary steps to make Russia pay for it.
He said this at a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (Ramstein), Censor.NET.
"Under the unwavering leadership of President Trump, and in particular together with our European allies, we will put an end to the war in Ukraine. The war must end. As we have seen him do in Gaza and in the Middle East, President Trump knows how to forge peace, to create opportunity in situations and scenarios where peace seems far away. He and only he has the ability to do that. This war did not start under President Trump, but it will end under his administration. So let's seize this moment, let's resolutely forge peace in Ukraine and bring peace by force," Hegseth emphasized.
He said Russia is being sent a clear message - it's time to end the war.
"If this war does not end, if there is no path to peace in the short term, then the United States, along with our allies, will take the steps necessary to put a price on Russia for its continued aggression. If we have to take that step, the U.S. military is prepared to do its part in a way that only the United States can do," the Pentagon chief said.
Hegseth added that the United States sees the most effective deterrents to Russian aggression as lethal, capable and European-led NATO forces, as well as a Ukrainian army that will be able to defend itself.
