German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced the launch of a new initiative of military support for Ukraine. It provides assistance with the maintenance and modernization of transferred Western equipment.
This is reported by Charter97.org with reference to Pistorius' statement during a press conference following Ramstein.
"It aims to increase the combat capabilities and 'life span' of the land systems we have already transferred to Ukraine. Large combat systems such as tanks and BMPs need to be updated to meet the latest standards. This involves new guns and the latest sensors," Pistorius said.
He noted that such work will be carried out mainly at existing maintenance and repair centers in Ukraine.
"Of course, the Ukrainian defense industry will be involved in this process. This will be an investment in the long-term development of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and this means that this work will continue even after a potential cessation of hostilities," the German minister said.
Pistorius also called on partners to join the development of Ukrainian air defense as part of the coalition under the Ramstein format, which is led by Germany.
