The 18 people on the boats headed downstream towards Lithuania. Having noticed border patrols on the Lithuanian shore, the migrants turned around and returned to Belarus. They came ashore, pulled out both boats and fled to the territory of Belarus.
On the same day at about 19:00 another group of migrants, about 16 people, appeared on the Belarusian side opposite Lazdy district. Some of them got into an inflatable boat, to which a rope was tied. In case the first group successfully landed, those who remained on the Belarusian side planned to return the boat and cross the Neman. As in the first case, Lithuanian patrols were waiting for the migrants on the Lithuanian bank. They were forced to return to Belarus.
