Border guards reported suspicious activity on the Russian side.

On Friday evening, October 10, the Estonian Border Guard decided to close the Saatse border crossing point because border guards spotted a larger than usual military unit on Russian territory.

This was reported by ERR.

According to Kyunter Pedoski, operations chief of the Southern Prefecture, border guards noticed a larger than usual Russian presence in the territory on Friday, October 10.

"Russian border guards regularly patrol the Saatse border crossing because it is their territory. Today there was more traffic than usual. We decided to close the road to prevent possible provocations and incidents, as our goal is to ensure the safety of the Estonian people," Pedoski explained.

He noted that at first the border guards stationed patrols on both sides of the road, who talked to passing drivers and gave recommendations to avoid this area at this time due to the increased presence of Russian units.

"Despite this recommendation, there were those who still wanted to continue their journey through this area. Since the road passes through Russian territory, given the security situation, it is necessary to be vigilant when crossing the Saatse border crossing," he stressed.

It is worth recalling that on the morning of September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindloo without permission and stayed there for about 12 minutes. Finnish as well as Swedish fighter jets were flown in to escort them.
