To monitor the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
U.S. military personnel began arriving in Israel on October 11 to establish a coordination center that will monitor the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. This was reported by ABC News, citing two official sources.
The sources said the U.S. military will not enter Gaza. The 200 troops being sent to Israel specialize in transportation, planning, logistics, security and engineering, according to a U.S. official. They will work alongside representatives from other partner countries, the private sector and non-governmental organizations.
"The coordination center is seen as the first step in implementing a peace process that will require extensive coordination of humanitarian, logistical and security assistance. The troops who will set up this military-led coordination center will gradually arrive over the weekend, with various units being brought in from both the U.S. and the Middle East," the publication reported.
In addition, Turkish authorities are also considering sending a task force to Gaza to work in the sector.
"Detailed work is being done by our foreign ministry, national defense ministry and the National Intelligence Organization. Then the mandate of the task force, prepared by the presidential administration, will be sent to parliament for consideration," 16haber quoted the head of the Justice and Development Party's Abdullah Guler parliamentary faction as saying.
Reminder, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect at 12 noon on October 10. This is one of the first steps in the American peace plan adopted by the parties. As previously reported, the Israel Defense Forces will now control and hold about 53% of the Gaza Strip.
The White House plan is to further govern the Gaza Strip by an interim transitional "Palestinian committee" under the supervision of a new international transitional body, the "Peace Council," to be headed by US President Donald Trump as well as other leaders, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Hamas and other groups must agree not to participate in the governance of Gaza - either directly, indirectly or in any form.
