A collective request has been received by António Gutterish.

Ex-officials from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Uruguay have written an open letter to António Gutterish with a request to remove the aggressor country Russia from the UN General Assembly.

According to the letter, cited by El Pais, Russia is carrying out systematic killings and persecution of civilians in Ukraine, which violates the UN Charter, so it would be appropriate to limit Russia's access until the end of the war in Ukraine.

As an example, the former officials cited the experience of South Africa's exclusion from the General Assembly in 1974 because of its apartheid policy.

‘Russia's strategy against Ukrainian civilians threatens to turn all international humanitarian law into an empty shell, with consequences beyond Ukraine,’ the appeal said.
