An Mi-8 helicopter has crashed in Magadan region (Russian Federation) with about twenty people on board. There is at least one dead and several injured as a result of the helicopter crash.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Russian media and Telegram of Magadan region governor Sergei Nosov.

The incident occurred in the North-Even district near Kvartsevaya mountain in Magadan region. The helicopter was flying along the route Sopka Kvartsova - Omsukchan.

It is noted that there were 17 miners and 3 crew members on the board, which belonged to Dalerechensk Avia. According to preliminary data, as a result of the crash one person died, two more were seriously injured, reports "Magadanskaya Pravda".

According to the Telegram-channel of "Magadan. Emergency," which refers to the Ministry of transport of the region, the helicopter made a "hard landing".

It is not yet known exactly what led to the fall of the helicopter. Technical malfunction and piloting error are among the versions considered by representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

There is also information that the Mi-8 pilots informed dispatchers about engine failure at the 13th kilometre of flight. According to the Mash Telegram channel, the helicopter got into a "snow charge", resulting in engine failure.

Magadan region governor Sergei Nosov said that a rescue team and medics had been sent to the crash site "to help and evacuate the injured".
