The countries demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the death of the Russian politician.
A number of European countries have summoned Russian ambassadors and other high-ranking diplomats onto the carpet in connection with the death in the colony of Alexei Navalny. Thus, the foreign ministries of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia summoned the Russian embassies' Chargés d'Affaires on Monday, 19 February, laying the responsibility for the oppositionist's death on the Kremlin.
Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn called on the Russian authorities to investigate thoroughly the circumstances of Navalny's death and hand over his body to his family.
Finland and Sweden have also summoned the Russian ambassadors. The AFP news agency reported a similar move by Spain. Earlier it was reported that the Russian ambassadors were summoned to the foreign ministries of Germany and the UK.
At the same time, the Swiss authorities told the Keystone-SDA agency that they did not intend to summon Russian diplomats to the Foreign Ministry. Bern limited itself to demanding a full investigation into the circumstances of Navalny's death. The Swiss Foreign Ministry pointed out that in the past it had already "repeatedly condemned the unjustified detention and ill-treatment of Alexei Navalny".
