A Belarusian citizen was detained in Voronezh for setting fire to a traction electrical substation in Tula. This was reported to TASS by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB.

“The Federal Security Service in Voronezh detained a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, born in 1998, who was involved in the arson on February 6, 2024 in the city of Tula of the traction electrical substation of Tula City Electric Networks JSC on instructions from the Ukrainian special services,” the PRC stated.

A criminal case was opened against the Belarusian under Part 1 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Sabotage). He faces up to 20 years in prison.

It is reported that the man was previously convicted of hooliganism with the use of weapons, explosives or flammable substances.

“After serving his sentence in January 2024, he, through a Ukrainian citizen Danko Otari Borisovich, born in 1970, who was repeatedly convicted of theft in Moscow and living in Kharkov, nicknamed Grisha Moskovsky, established contact with an employee of the Ukrainian special services named Yuri. According to the FSB, he set the Belarusian the task of committing sabotage and terrorist attacks on civil infrastructure facilities of the Russian Federation for a monetary reward. On February 5, 2024, on Yuri’s instructions, the defendant arrived in Tula, where he made a homemade incendiary device and set fire to an electrical substation,” writes TASS with reference to the FSB.

The intelligence service noted that after providing the video report to the curator, he received money on his bank card and the next task — to go to Voronezh to commit arson at a transformer electrical substation and a pumping station.

“At the man’s place of temporary stay, a mobile phone containing correspondence with the curator and three ready-to-use incendiary mixtures were seized. All organizers and accomplices of the crime, including foreign citizens, will be put on the wanted list and prosecuted in accordance with Russian legislation,” the FSB concluded.
