The incident at the World Rapid Chess Championship has continued.
Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, threw a real tantrum over Pole Jan-Krzysztof Duda's refusal to shake hands with his Russian rival at the World Rapid Chess Championship.
The Olympic champion attacked the Polish grandmaster with outright insults in an interview with Sport24.
A native of Konotop, Sumy region, who ardently supports Russia's war against Ukraine, Mamiashvili accused world sport of no longer "carrying the principles of tolerance and friendship" and criticised the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
"Can this be considered a display of strength or skill? Unfortunately, this is the problem of these people and of the modern world. This whole situation is provoked and encouraged by the IOC, with their easy hand the charter and the basic meanings that have been invested in the international sports movement are being abandoned. Their platform is not fundamental and does not carry the principles of tolerance to foreign political intrigues. The friendship of the Olympic family and village used to be promoted, but now..." Mamiashvili said.
It should be noted that Duda's opponent in the World Cup match, Denys Khismatullin, openly supports Russia's terror and aggression against Ukraine.
